I’m a Maths Guru

LI - roll two dice and add the numbers

We’ve learnt how to use two dice to add the dots together. We played a game with a buddy and took turns rolling the dice. We helped each other counting if one was stuck.

Phonics time!

LI - to recognise the first sound of a word

In Room 2 we are trying our best to sound out the sounds that we hear in a word. The word queen begins with a q, volcano begins with v, kangaroo begins with k and zoo begins with z! Look at my beautiful forming of the letters.

Recognising Sight Words

We are learning to recognise the magenta sight words.

In Reading nga tamariki have been making great progress pointing to each word and using the pictures to help them read a sentence.  Each week we have a new "word of the week" and students do their best to identify that word in their book.

"I am good at finding are", said Jayriss.

I am learning that illustrations help me read the story

In Reading we have been learning that the illustrations help us to read the story.  If I am unsure of a word I can look at the picture and it can help me.

"I am so good at that", said Jayriss.

We are learning to point to each word when we read

We are learning to point to each word when we read a story.  This is called one-to-one word matching and it helps us to focus on each word that we read.
